The man from the Northwest district became a brilliant star in Chinese calligraphy history with his bold and unconstrained character bring out new connotation and peculiarity after he worked on the calligraphy, one kind of the traditional art in Zhongyuan area. As a scholar-bureaucrat in the Borchigi court, Naonao had many friends among whom there were not only the poems like Ma Zuchang, Yang Zai, but also the litterateurs like XuYouren, Huang Jin, Hu Zhu and Gong Shitai.
