The Geographical Factors of the Rising

of Marine Merchants in Fujian Province in the Song Dynasty

     Abstract: Song dynasty was one of the most active period of foreign trade. Fujian province, located in southeast costal region of China, was one of the most important provinces in our foreign trade. Marine merchants in Fujian province did business well and became the representatives of the domestic costal merchants in Song dynasty. In this text, I would discuss why marine merchants in Fujian province did better than other arrivals in other places according to the geographical factors of the improvement of the land transportation conditions, the development of marine transportation technology and the rising of the regional harbor position.
