p;Back of Natural Phenomenon
—Examples in the study of Chinese environment history
Abstract: At the back of natural phenomenon there hides the effect of man’s action. The flood of the Yellow River and the soil erosion closely [ink up with the hahitants’s productive and living mode in the middle reach of that river. In ancient times there grew forest, and there had been good ecological environment there. In the period of Zhou and Qin dynasties (1027—207 BC) over reclaiming land and cutting woods caused the scene of broken brooks and ditches. Desertification is also a kind of social phenomenon, which is the result causedby man’s action. The forest destroyed by man is an important cause resuhed in decreasing rain. It is necessary for the study of environment history to stand on the angle of reviewing the relation between man and nature and explore man’s action at the back of natural phenomenon.
