这攀“干亲”是典型的中华文化，英文里虽有“adoptive”一说，但那是一种收养关系，二者不能混为一谈。用“dry”son等于白译，因为英语读者肯定是“丈二和尚”——摸不着头脑。

“举人”、“进士”是中国古代科举制度的产物，与“博士”学位完全是两码事，译者却用了doctor一词正确的译文分别是“successfulCall-didateinhteimpeiral examinationsattheprovinciallevelintheMingandQingDynsaties”和“success-fulcandidate in the highestimperila examinaitonsheldinthepalaceundertheemperor’Ssupervision”(《新世纪汉英大词典》)。
