A Textual Research on Uighur Language’s Influence on the Khitans

Abstract: There was a close relationship between the Uighurs and Khitans since the Tang Dynasty (618-907), as a result, both Khitan language and character were deeply influenced by Uighur language. Due to short of the historical records and related materials, the problem is remained for a long time. The present paper thinks that formulation of the Small Khitan Character got help of Uighur embassy and was based on the Chinese character and the rule of the Uighur language. Besides, a lot of terms of the Khitans borrowed from the Uighurs.
